For somewhere fun to take the kids at the weekend, jump aboard the Halton Miniature Railway in Cheshire. With a 7 ¼” gauge track that runs almost a mile long, this is a fantastic, cheap way to get some fresh air and fun with the family. The 10-minute train ride takes a lovely route through some of Town Park in Stockham Lane, and has been run by a team of volunteers since its opening in 1979. There’s also a bright and colourful outdoor play area nearby, which is completely free. You can even enjoy a budget-friendly by bringing your own lunch to enjoy on one of the picnic tables, or you can try the Ski Centre near the main station where there’s plenty of drinks and snacks available.
